'Patton' (1970)

Patton (1970)

My Rating: (4.5/5)

Diretor : Franklin J. Schaffner

Star Cast : George C. Scott, Karl Malden, Michael Bates

Distributed by : 20th Century Fox Film Corp.

Based on : "A Soldier's Story" by Omar N. Bradley and "Patton: Ordeal and Triumph" by Ladislas Fargo

One of the finest performances ever given in the history of cinema and for which George C. Scott (as General George Patton in the movie) was awarded with the Oscar for the best actor. Scott refused to accept his Oscar as for him ‘The Academy Awards’ was merely a ‘meat parade’. 'Patton' is a biographical war film based on the military life of US General George Patton during World War II. It is seen as mini history lesson of the war in Europe. The movie won seven Oscars including the best picture, best director. Patton is usually quoted for its opening monologue where Scott (as General Patton) gave an iconic speech with an American flag behind him. A fantastic portrayal of World War II.

Now, I want you to remember that no bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country. Men, all this stuff you’ve heard about America not wanting to fight, wanting to stay out of the war Read More...

[Updated later on: Two hours after writing this post, I logged into BBC News. Karl Malden (check the star cast of Patton) has died of old age problems. Malden acted as General Omar Bradley in 'Patton'. He also won an Oscar for his performance in The Streetcar Named Desire in 1951. RIP Malden.]
