Oxybelis Fulgidus is a south american snake. I think a better identification is Ahaetulla nasuta

No, it's true that all snakes of the genus Oxybelis are found only in South and Central America. Those from the genus Ahaetulla are found mostly in Asia as far as I know. Ahaetulla nasuta (the Common Vine Snake) and Oxybelis fulgidus (the Green Vine Snake) are not related at all, they simply look similar. This is a phenomenon called Convergent Evolution, where separate species that live in similar habitats develop similar anatomical structures. However, in behaviour, these two are quite different. A good giveaway that the two species are different (even at a glance) is that Ahaetulla nasuta is known for is horizontal, thin pupils while Oxybelis fulgidus has round pupils. Please change the title as it is misleading and leads one to believe that a snake native to America was found in South India.

@Milam Visitors: Thanks for the information. Very enlightening indeed. Anyway, the title is changed.
